Terengganu Food Eater Part 4

Then this is about something else other than local food.

This is Yes Corner. A restaurant hiding beside the road. This is really difficult to find. But if you see Asia Signature, it is just at the another end of the shop. Not a very nice japanese food served but then.. what else do you expect when you're here. We do appreciate our food. hahaa..XD not much choice.

So, here we go! SUSHI and WASABI!!!!! =9 actually it wasn't that bad. The tempura soft shell crab is nice though. The rice served is garlic rice, not white rice.

Soft Shell Crab Don
This is tempura prawn rice. The prawn is gigantic =P 3 prawns in 1 don, not bad portion.

Tempura Prawn Don
This is salmon nigiri, the salmon is slightly roasted not too raw. suitable for those who don't dare to try raw fish.

Salmon Nigiri
This is Teriyaki Chicken Skewer. The meat is a bit dry actually. not very nice. I prefer juicy meat.

Teriyaki Chicken Skewer

Then we ordered some sushi too. they put quite a lot of toppings so it's quite worthy though the price is quite high.

Then this is a restaurant near my rented house at Taman Bestari. The middle shop. I dont remember the shop name  though. They serve what we so call masakan panas which means hot wok food at first. Later then they started this cheap package of food for  only RM5!!!  Imagining having a giant fried chicken fillet burger and chicken chop for only RM5 each. The portion is definitely big enough and worth the price. They have the beef burger as well. Never got the chance to try before leaving as the shop is quite new.

So this is the chicken burger mentioned above. The chicken is thickly covered with the frying dough thus the portion looks big. You can never stuff this into your mouth in whole. As the other Ramly burger stall, they like to put a lot of sauce, chili sauce, black pepper sauce and mayonnaise to make it rich in taste.

Chicken Burger
This is the chicken chop. They serve with coleslaw and baked beans. The sauce is black pepper sauce. In Terengganu, they like to serve their chops with black pepper sauce, if you didn't mention that you would like to have other sauce, they will give you black pepper sauce.

Chicken Chop
Overall, the food is quite nice and is cheap. The owner of the shop is friendly too. We used to chat when they are free.

What about a sip of coffee today? Introducing to you the 'starbucks' in Kuala Terengganu, Star Anise. They serve aromatic coffee with nice coffee art =) i LIKE that place a lot.

Look at the thickness of the foam... If you're that kind of person who can't sleep after coffee, you can try this. the coffee is nice in smell but not too strong. really nice. Both of the coffee we ordered is Mocha.. They serve cakes and some snacks too. But we are too full after dinner. So we just came here to chit chat and enjoy the coffee. Most of the time the shop is full of people, so if you really would like to try the coffee, you need to queue. You know.. good things worth your time. =)

Then, how can we miss the famous small bun from Terengganu. I was kind of shocked when I saw a stall in KL selling the small bun. My mum asked me if I have heard of it and I have no idea what is it. So I got back to Terengganu after my sem break and start searching for it. and uh-huh! I found it. Actually quite a lot of shop in chinatown is selling this. I just didn't notice it. =P cause it seems like a normal bread to me.

This is from the most famous one. I tried and I was amazed! The bread is so soft and crispy after toasted and the kaya is just nice, not too sweet.

Small Bun
It is a small shop near Chi Tze. The tauge neu is a friendly person. She talked to us while cleaning her stall to close. ok.. we got up quite late that's why we ate while they are cleaning their stall. =P This is a must try I would say. I have tried other shops but not as nice as this. This is a small kopitiam so it's kind of dirty but still acceptable. They serve other food too but... so so lo. haha..XD

Terengganu Food Eater Part 2

Enough with the western food. Now we continue with some other cuisine. =)

Why not with some local food? Craving for steamboat? Craving for bbq? why not have them at the same time? Introducing to you the combination of steamboat, bbq and buffet!

We had it at RM29.90 per pax. If you are a meat eater. You should definitely come here. They serve nice marinated black pepper chicken and beef, marinated chili chicken and beef, marinated turmeric chicken and beef, fishballs, vege, noodles and some other balls and hotdogs. Of course when I say buffet, it is free flowwwww and they serve nasi goreng, laksa and spaghetti. I personally like their black pepper chicken. Finish? Going for dessert? They serve ice cream and ice kacang over here. And you can always make your own combination of different flavours ice cream and add own toppings for ice kacang. This is also near the Batu Bersurat roundabout. Makang senak senok if not mistaken the name of this shop.

Then we have this NR cafe near UMT. This shop is my favourite. I went here with my mum and aunt once before I started my study in UMT. The food over here is nice. They have Ikan Bakar, Sup Belut, western chops and local delicacies. I love their Kuey Teow Goreng. The best in Kuala Terengganu. Not too dry but very fragrant. Nice! Their steamed fish is nice too. They serve white Tomyam over here. So dont be surprise when you order tomyam and it's 'colourless'. I do prefer red red tomyam soup though. =)

We usually came here to celebrate birthday of friends and gathering. As it is near and nice =) The environment is nice too. quite romantic. haha.. cause it is dark but if you expect very clean environment then too bad. this is open air area. they have small little frogs and lizards. =P By the way, the workers will have to solat from 7pm until 8pm. so if you come on these time, Sorry, please wait until 8.

Terengganu Food Eater Part 1

I studied in Terengganu for 3 years. And Terengganu is really not only about malay food. They served western food as well. So here is some recommendations for those who have no idea what to eat when they are in Terengganu.

First, we start with Tappers near Kampung Cina. This is a normal Malaysian restaurant to most of them in Klang Valley. You won't even bother to go in because there are so many other choices in Klang Valley. I kind of like Tappers when I was in Kuala Terengganu as the serving portion is big and the price is affordable for a student.

This is our first try when Tappers only opened for a few weeks in Kuala Terengganu. I came here with a few friends. One of them ordered Nasi with Ayam Masak Merah. The rice is not sticky as some of the people really hate eating rice in Terengganu as they all like sticky sticky rice like Nasi Kukus. This is fine and the Ayam Masak Merah is not too spicy. For me, nay. I like super spicy food. haha...XD We ordered the set meal so it comes with choices of drinks.

Nasi with Ayam Masak Merah
Then another friend had this Kong Poh Fish. See.. the generous portion. Omg...
I bet you cannot take in any other food after eating here.

Kong Poh Fish
This is soy sauce chicken. Nice. Not too salty. but the vege.. erhem.. like your nanny. hahaha..XD
Soy Sauce Chicken
This is my favourite. Chicken Parmigiana. Cheesyyyyyyy.. =9 this is definitely a burp after eating.

Chicken Parmigiana
This is another fried chicken chop dish. I don't remember the name. Sorry. As what I said before. Big portion.

Chicken Chop
 This is all for Tappers.

Then we got another cafe named Gossip Kitchen. The food is slightly smaller portion but it taste nicer. The shop is hiding somewhere near the Batu Bersurat roundabout. A bit difficult for newcomers to find it but it definitely worth your time.

This is Grilled Chicken Chop. It served with some fried eggplant and mashed potato. This is really nice as the chicken is juicy and tender and mashed potato is nicely flavoured. Thumbs up.

Grilled Chicken Chop
This is what my friend ordered, Loh Su Fun Soup. A bit too peppery if you don't like the fragrance of black pepper. But overall this is fine. =)

Loh Su Fun Soup
This my favourite! Seafood Marinara. The spaghetti is a bit too little. =( so I always ask for extra portion of the spaghetti. The sauce is creamy and full of the sourness and sweetness of tomato. The prawn tempura is nice too, not oily at all. and they give a generous portion of seafood. Yum Yum.

Seafood Maninara
This is Fried Chicken Chop. If you like fried food with that crunchy crunchy sound. This is definitely your choice.

Fried Chicken Chop
This is Barbeque Chicken. Their special dish that they have a specific period on serving this. If you missed it, too bad =P The chicken is really juicy. I really like that the juiciness of the chicken in every bites. They serve it with wedges that is so potato =9

Barbeque Chicken
This is my another favourite dish. Grilled Rib eye. The meat is so tender that you can eat bite it without your teeth. the meat is nice going with the sauce. wondering if you will be full with that small portion? erm... order other food. haha..XD
Grilled Rib Eye
The price over here is slightly high. The waiter is very friendly. You can always ask him to recommend you.

Then we have another shop in Chinatown where you can have a sip of aromatic coffee and some non-halal alcoholic drinks and food. The Vinum.

Grilled Pork Chop.  If you are hunting for pork, chinatown is always your first choice. The chop is fine. Taste fine. Nothing much to talk about. But over here, you can choose the sauce that you would like to be served with your chops. they have variety of choices.

Grilled Pork Chop
Then I had Grilled Chicken Chop. As you can see, chicken thigh. tender =) I have chosen pineapple sauce. I wonder how they mix it. it is sweet and sour and a great aroma of fresh pineapple. This is really good to go with meat. It takes away the oiliness.

Grilled Chicken Chop

My friend had this Friend Chicken Chop. Yes. He likes fried food. The crunchy crunchy one. It is served with mayonnaise and some sweet soy sauce. It turns out to be nice though weird combination.

Fried Chicken Chop
Later, we moved to the cafe area to have our relaxing and chit chat time. I order this blue sea or blue something. It is some coloured syrup with soda and lime. I expected it to be alcoholic though. haha.. They have a variety of wine over here. You name it, you have it. Erm... in Kuala Terengganu, this is really cool.

Blue coloured drink
Caramel Latte. Creamy and milky. Not too sweet. But I prefer stronger taste coffee. I like more coffee coffee. haha...

Caramel Latte
Some pastries to go with our drinks. Not bad.

Danish Bread
Cafe Latte. the coffee art is so nice. Please remember, this is Terengganu.

Cafe Latte
The food is fine. Not much to comment though. This is located beside of the Turtle Alley. If you come to Kuala Terengganu, please do visit the Turtle Alley and have some photo shoot. There are a lot of amazing street arts too near Chinatown. Discover yourself =)

Tim Ho Wan The Gardens

Basically, I'm a super big eater. And so, I'm here to share my experiences of having great food but not necessarily expensive food =) Today, it is about Tim Ho Wan at The Gardens. This is not a great experience as I visited this shop when it opened for a few weeks of course not today.

My mum and I have ordered a few dishes. of course the famous Po Loh Cha Siew Pau is one of it. To me, it is too sweet as the crispy Poh Loh part is already sweet and when it goes together with the Char Siew filling, it is definitely too much. And the so call Char Siew is sliced pork belly dipped in the sauce only, it is not cooked and roasted like the others.

Po Loh Char Siew Pau
Then we also ordered this Chives and Prawn Dumplings. They put in a gigantic prawn in each of the dumpling which is pretty awesome. and the dumpling is generously filled with chives. This I would say yums =)

Chives and Prawn Dumplings
Then we had this must order dish when it comes to Dim Sum session. The Siew Mai. I don't really like the weird smell and taste from the pork actually. That's why I don't really eat pork. This 1 is definitely what I'm saying. The Siew Mai has that kind of taste. I only tried one and left the others for my mum. Sorry...

Siew Mai
This is my mum favourite. She said she missed it when she went to HK. So she came to try this but this doesn't impress her. The pork liver is thickly sliced thus the inside of the liver is still raw and 'bleeding'. omg... and the Cheong Fun is thick and doesn't really has that rice aromatic flavour. so we decided to leave this dish miserably.

Pork Liver Cheong Fun
Overall the food is not very our type. But with the long long queue, I guess a lot of people still likes it or maybe they just wanna give it a try. Me personally will not come back again. So sorry.
